Blue Quartz

Natural blue quartz, found in Brazil and Spain, is defined as macrocrystalline quartz that is blue. The term is used to describe quartz crystals that appear blue due to an effect caused by tiny inclusions that are evenly distributed such as magnesio-riebeckite or tourmaline or dumortierite.

So far no quartz that is blue because of color centers, similar to those found in amethyst or smoky quartz, has been found in nature.

Siberian Blue Quartz are quartz crystals grown in a lab under very exact conditions, and infused with cobalt, which gives them their deep blue color.

They have the same chemical composition, hardness and other basic physical properties as natural gemstones but are more likely to lack inclusions and imperfections.
